Why consider an Educational Assessment?
The main aim of an educational assessment is to identify the ideal educational environment for a child based on his or her abilities. An educational assessment offers information about a child’s general intelligence and highlights the child’s strengths and weaknesses.
As standard practice, I also conduct a scholastic assessment which measures the child’s reading, writing, spelling and mathematical ability in relation to children within the same age-group. What is more, this assessment is often accompanied by an emotional assessment, so as to gain a richer understanding of the child’s internal world.
This standardised battery of assessments can aid in ensuring correct school placement as well as identifying problematic areas.
Based on the results of the assessment, suggestions are made about what measures can be put in place to ensure better coping – where strengths can be built upon and weaknesses improved.
